Our Little Miracle, Ridhaan

When the doctor first tells you you’re expecting a baby, you never think about the challenges that may lie ahead. You just expect to go to the hospital in nine months, have your child and return back home with your new Little Miracle.

It was certainly a dream come true for us when the results came back positive that we were having a baby. However, the problems soon began. They were concerned that our baby would be born prematurely at just 26 weeks. Doctors continued to monitor the situation but at 30 weeks I had to go to the hospital due to complications with the umbilical cord. There were concerns the baby wasn’t getting enough oxygen and blood flow. My husband and I prayed to the Lord for our little Champ.

On Sept. 4, I was rushed at Chaitanya Hospital; Ridhaan was welcomed into this world. He was just 1.13kg and 12 inches long. He was admitted immediately to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). He was so tiny that he fit in our hands and we could do nothing but hope and trust that God was in control. As you can imagine, it was a very stressful time. But Ridhaan was so strong and he continued to improve. There were many good days, and some bad ones too. It seemed that for every two steps forward we’d take ten big ones back

With time, Ridhaan came off the ventilator and continued to show improvement. Through this difficult time, the Chaitanya’s  doctors and nurses on duty, kept us advised and gave us the comfort we needed before, during and after the treatment.

Ridhaan called the hospital home for the first 15 days of his life before he was finally able to come home with us in  September 18. With the help of the nurses, respiratory therapists and doctors at  Chaitanya Hospital who were such a big part of his life for 26 weeks, we now have Ridhaan, our little miracle from God. We hope that anyone who reads this will find encouragement and understand that miracles can and do happen. Our own Ridhaan is a testament to this. And we thank God and Chaitanya  hospital for this miracle and blessing bestowed on our family.
